music review I: El Aire De Tu Casa

What you see here is the first music review to appear on new focus. I decided to kick it off with someone you guys have probably never heard of before. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Jesus Adrian Romero, a Hispanic music artist of Christian music. For Christmas I got his newest CD, El Aire De Tu Casa. Yep, you guessed it -- it's in Spanish! Several months ago I posted the lyrics to one of his older, yet very convicting, songs. Once again, Jesus Adrian doesn't fail to to write awesome worship and convicting meditations.

First let's talk about the artist, Jesus Adrian. I found out several things about him on his website and found that he is a very interesting fellow. You can read his biography and interview for yourself at
http://jesusadrian.net but it's in Spanish so I'll be so kind as to briefly tell you some interesting things about him myself. Jesus Adrian was born in Hermosillo, Mexico which is in the north-west section of Mexico a few hours away from the border of Arizona. Early in his life, Jesus Adrian came to the States for seminary. He then pastored for nine years in a few churches both in U.S. and in Mexico. Eventually, he got involved in the worship team at his church and now he has dedicated his time mostly to music and started to travel around the country performing massive worship services. Some would probably call them concerts but they are quite different than normal concerts. Most of his albums have been recorded live, except for his newest one "El Aire De Tu Casa".

In an age where the more noise the better, Jesus Adrian’s music is totally refreshing to me. Every time I listen to it, it makes me slow down and recommit my life to God. To me it is a breath of fresh air after listening to the now-popular, fast paced, punk beat that seems to parrellel with our chaotic, busy life. Too often I need to be told "Be still" in order to remember devotions or to pray to God through out the day. Too often I need to slow down and ask myself "What's my focus?"
As you can tell, the guy has an amazing voice! Singing comes so naturally for him that I think there is no doubt he was meant to produce music! I love every song on the CD, but my favorite is the one playing right now: “Mi Universo” or “My Universe”. It’s one of those sung directly to God asking Him to be the core of every thought and feeling. (If you can’t hear the song then that means too many people have visited my blog in the past hour -- come back later!)
Another song gets me all the time is called "Await Me". How many times do I shove my time alone with God down my priority list? Devotions used to be second nature to me. What in the world has happened to me? Is it really that difficult to quietly open the love letter of my Maker and talk to the most carring Person in the universe? May God get me back to the point to where I can excitingly say, "Lord, you can count me entering your presence. Await me there."
Now, one of the first things I bet you guys noticed was that this guy's name is Jesus. "How dare they!" you say, "What sort of parents would call their son the name of the almighty?" Ironically, one of the most beautiful songs on the album is one call "He's Not Like Me". Then you say, "Well good for him. I bet he needs that reminder all the time!" Look who's talking! With some awesome, Spanish-style guitar arangment, the song reminds me that we all constantly need the reminder that God's ways are not our ways. Our sin-cursed minds cannot compare with the holy mind of God.
There are so many good songs on this CD but if I ramble any more you guys will never visit my site again. I think the next blog I'll post will be something on the differeces of the Christian worldview and the world's. So do, come again!

I want to live like there's no tomorrow
I want to dance like no one's around
I want to sing like nobodey's listening
Before I lay my body down
I want to give like I have plenty
I want to love like I'm not afraid
I want to be the man I was meant to be
I want to be the way I was made

In Return

There are still some rough spots in this song but I decided to post it anyway.

You gave me eyes
You gave me feet
You gave me a sense of direction
You helped me crawl
You helped me stand
You helped me find my direction

And so I turn, I turn, I turn to You
Stepping toward the wondrous cross
Your bridge of love I walk across
I turn, I turn to You
Stepping toward the tree of life
In return the world is put aside
I turn to You

You gave me lungs
You gave me voice
You gave me a way to worship
You made the world
You made the way
You made a reason to worship

And so I sing, I sing, I sing to You
Joining with creation’s song
I see your hand all the day long
I sing, I sing to You
Joining with the angel’s praise
In return my hands I’ll raise
I sing to You

You gave me breath
You gave me life
You gave me the chance to make my own choice
You provided the Lamb
You provided the blood
You provided the chance to make the right choice

And so I live, I live, I live for You
Daily dieing to my flesh
Every day my joy is fresh
I live, I live for You
Daily flying in Your love
In return pointing above
I live for You

Looking Ahead...

Hey, I just wanted to take this time to thank you all for reading my blog. Its been an unexpected blessing for me to hear your comments and read your blogs. I couldn’t ask for cooler friends!

I also wanted to let you guys know of some exciting new things I have planned for a new focus. I’ve been working on some rather larg and deep issues that I think I will post such as Differences We Often Forget, The Reality of Love, Epistemological Ponderings, and The Scriptures vs. the New Interpretations. The last one is something I’m really excited about and lately I have stumbled into a ton of resources on it. So that one might take a few weeks to get through. I’d like to start post it some time around the release of the Da Vinci Code film in May.

As you can see, in between normal posts I’ve been quoting Scripture and other wise words. This too will continue as phrases from rarely used Scripture passages and little-known books and over-looked lyrics, jump out and grab my attention!

Oh yeah, and I’m going to try to continue to write a song every now and then. I have about ten that are halfway done but I‘m having trouble finishing them.

Now, some of you may have noticed that father Brown has been posting book reviews. Pretty nice, huh? Well, I got a great idea. I’m going to post music reviews! Music being one of my top interests, I’d like to work on my musical observance skills. I don’t buy new CD‘s too often, but nonetheless, I’m going to review all of the new music I get for 2006. I’ll discuss the creativity of the lyrics, the overall meaning of the song, and the originality of the melody and accompaniment. We’ll have to see how reviewing music goes and I might just have to borrow music throughout the year so I can have more to review. Soon I’ll be posting my first music review.

Well, that’s all I wanted to say for now. God bless you all and to all a good night!
