shall we get high on truth?

LIFE

Think about your favorite food, movie, music, place, person, video game, book, website, etc... Now think about why this is your favorite. More than likely it's because "I like it better than the rest" or "I have the most fun with that one" or "It fits me the best."
In other words: It's all about me!!!
I was reading several blogs this evening and I was surprised to see that so many people say this! I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering it's obvious all around us that this is a very common thought all over the world! Why? Why do literally billions of people think the universe revolves around them? Could this be a mistake?
One solar system cannot revolve around several billion suns at one time! We are born into this world where there is an innumberable amount of people who have lived, are living, and have yet to live - and we think we are special. Well, guess what. There you are right. You are special. We are all uniquelly different from anyone else. But we are all humans and if one of us can be the center of life, than all of us have the right to claim to be the center.
"Then what is life about?" you might ask. "What can else can I live for other than myself? What is the point of life?" Let me ask you first: What is the American Dream? Get through school. Get a job. Have a house. Have a spouse. 3 cars. Spoiled kids. Success. A big pay check. Entertainment. Pleasure. To be happy. Is this the point of life? Many think so. And many accomplish this goal. But what comes after the American Dream? What about death?
Picture this: The setting is your funeral, and everyone takes turns saying something about your life. What would they say? What would you want them to say? You are probably hoping that your friends would say, "This was an awesome person. I really apprietiated him (or her)." How will you accomplish that? A job? A house? A big pay check? No. For others to think that you were cool, you would have to have made their world better. Ah, now that's life!
"WHAT???!!!!" you say. "You mean my life could be about loving others? About helping others? About making them the center?!!!"
Bingo!
"Well," you might say, "why would I care what others think of me at my funeral?"
Because that brings true happiness.
"True happiness? That's not happiness! Happiness is about doing stuff for me!"
Oh is it? What things are those?
"Movies, video games (Halo 2), hobbies, sports, music, the opposite sex, etc..."
I'm sorry but all those things are temporary. Those things are fun. Not lasting true happiness.
"Then what is true happiness?"
It's all about loving others.
"Okay, I'm outa here!"
No wait! Now I'm going to explain to you why I believe this. Travel with me 2000 years back into time and we meet a man. Many people called him Master. Others called him Teacher. But most knew him as Jesus. He lived his whole life tending to the needs of others and just before he left our world he commanded us to love others.
"Now why would we obey this guy's command to make our life all about loving others?" Because he did the most loving deed anyone in all of world's history from begining to now to end. He died for us.
"Why?"
Because we live for ourselves and the only his death could save us from a life time of selfishness.
"Why do I need to be saved from selfishness? I like being selfish."
Well, guess what. Think of your funeral again. That day will come. You will leave this world and find yourself somewhere else for eternity. No, life doesn't end when you die. Life begins either in heaven, or in hell. Life here on earth is just preparation. Just a little time span to give you the time to choose where you want your path to begin. Just the prologue of the never ending story. Will you let your selfish American Dream take you to eternal suffering or will you let your selfless Godly Dream lead you to eternal happiness? Believe it or not, the Creator of this world saw how selfish we are and realized that we needed help. And so he came down to earth, and died for our selfishness. Now all we have to do is accept his gift to be able to live a life of true happiness with our life centered on Him who loved us enough to pay the ultimate sacrifice.
"How do we make our life center on Him?"
We love others.
